Symptoms

Diabetes symptoms vary depending on how much your blood sugar is elevated. Some people, especially those with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, may sometimes not experience symptoms. In type 1 diabetes, symptoms tend to come on quickly and be more severe.

Some of the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes are:

  • Increased thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Extreme hunger
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Presence of ketones in the urine (ketones are a byproduct of the breakdown of muscle and fat that happens when there’s not enough available insulin)
  • Fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Blurred vision
  • Slow-healing sores
  • Frequent infections, such as gums or skin infections and vaginal infections

Type 1 diabetes can develop at any age, though it often appears during childhood or adolescence. Type 2 diabetes, the more common type, can develop at any age, though it’s more common in people older than 40.

Blood sugar, glucose, ideal numbers for diabetics

Gestational diabetes is diabetes diagnosed for the first time during pregnancy (gestation). Like other types of diabetesgestational diabetes affects how your cells use sugar (glucose). Gestational diabetes causes high blood sugar that can affect your pregnancy and your baby’s health.

Blood sugar and carbs.

Some years ago around 1980 an important wave of information came to us where we were being informed of the dangers of fat in our diet.

Fats were at the center of cholesterol and foods containing damaging fatty substances and the fear of heart disease got blown up and made us think about our eating habits.

Soon, food products claiming “low fat” and “fat free” were invading the store shelves and everyone rushed to buy and consume these new “healthy products”.

We entered into a new era of low fat diet and we switched unknowingly to carb rich foods that were presented to us as the new healthy alternative.

We then stirred away from eggs, egg yolks, cream, cream cheese, meat, pork, ground beef, fatty fish, etc., etc.,as these foods were fat rich.

Now, what happened? The population started gaining weight like never before but why were we getting fatter eating low fat foods? .

When a farmer wants the pigs to get big and fat, the farmer does not feed the pig fatty foods, instead the pig gets fed corn and grains.( carbohydrates, sugars….)

Now, here is an attemp to explain, we all have a hormone secreted by the pancreas called insulin, everytime we eat according to the food content we release this insulin hormone to handle all the carbs coming in. The carbs (sugars) are to be moved by insulin into energy production by the “cell” as insulin facilitates the intake into the cell of the human body as well as all other animals.

As we indulge on delicious treats low in fat by high in carbs (sugars) example, sugar rich gourmet coffee, doughnuts, muffins, cookies, rice, potatoes, french fries, bread, hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, alcohol, soda, fruits and fruit juices, just to name a few, we demand of our pancreas lots of insulin secretion but then all the sugars (carbs, blood sugar called glucose) is not utilized and insulin converts this excess into “fat” which is then stored and we get that nasty stubborn fat belly we all want to not have.

We are now the fattest we ever been with all the low fat foods we consume. The fat you have and get can only be accumulated by high intake of carbs which are handled by insulin and the excess is turned and stored as fat.

On top of that we lack exercise, our handheld devices have turned us into couch potatoes, the pandemic has us bored at home and trying to ease our anxiety by non stop trips to the fridge.

So disease like diabetes have us now going to see the doctor more than ever before, and diabetes is leading us to heart disease and plaque……..this being just the tip of the iceberg on the numerous diseases that afflicts us because of high carb intake. …was just thinking
