So, the other day we decided to go and splurge and have ourselves a Banana Split, ice cream of 3 flavors and whipped cream topped with cherries and nuts. I cant tell you how long it had been since trying one of those . Well, we went back home and about 3 hours after eating the Banana Split between my wife and I, when i checked my blood sugar it was 149. Now, i have never been labeled a diabetic, I am 66 years young, athletic, waist size 34 , 5:10 and weight is 177 lbs. My A1C test came last lab at 4.9, so no diabetes and I do work out with weights at the gym daily. Being the ice cream and Bananas so loaded with sugars and carbs it became an agressor to my body and blood sugar spiked. Now, after I saw that 149 blood sugar my inmediate next move was to go out and hit the hills on a very brisk walk for the nex 25 minutes, as i came back home after my walk checked my blood sugar again and it had gone down to 90. Now, my pancreas can generate insulin to keep my sugars normal however the banana split overloaded my system and that repeatedly over time can lead to seriuos disease……just my experience.
